This is the complete TRADE WORLD SERIES -- all four (4) novels (780 pages) in one. (Re-edited) Reviewer - Had I known how much I would enjoy this I would have paid double! Reviewer - Engrossing tale that I could not put down. Reviewer - Wow. Long but a good read MANUAL INTERPRETATION - Rett didn't expect to be rescued and then attacked by a primitive on a test flight. Andrew didn't expect to save an alien and nearly destroy his planet because of what he learned. Earth didn't get to choose their representative for a planet-wide treaty and then be threatened by an alien confederation. Surely Earth couldn't defend itself. Surely we couldn't have had contact with others, from off-planet, before now...but what was this backwater planet doing with a fleet of ships, advanced navigation systems and a galactic-class trading facility with personnel who spoke all the major galactic languages. Every species got it wrong. We were just trying to fit to follow the manual. PATENTLY OBVIOUS - Earth is venturing out into space with technology adapted from aliens. We have no clue on how to trade and which planets are occupied and which are vacant. How will we move out into the void when there is political sniping at home? How do you convince the public it is a good thing when they don't believe they really exist? Aliens are headed to Earth. What do we trade? What will we ask in return? How do we handle intellectual property off planet? Every technology -- every trade good is fair game. This is about Earth going through its growing pains and being tested at every turn. Earth has a lot of growing up to do and it isn't all fun and games...it is a test we have to pass... A CERTAIN EXPERTISE - shows our young race suddenly moving into deep space. Empires had existed before us but we had come from the fringe of the galaxy and the older races were near the core. Some races progressed slowly even though they were much older due to their bureaucracy. Others appeared and disappeared in the blink of an eye. We were currently leaving a mark on our galactic arm through our trade and rediscovered ancient technology but we really don't have a clue. We have overcome local competition and are probing deeper toward our galaxy Core. We are searching for the creators of the molecular circuitry that can improve electronics or form intelligent machines. We are also, struggling with our humanity and facing political jockeying at home due to radical changes in longevity, energy availability, and mobility. New power sources and alien influences may be a bit much for Earth should we even survive the tourists and traders. The more advanced species that are further inward on the spiral arm are another kettle of fish altogether. CORE VALUES - Earth and the Exploration Service destroyed the bulk of the Allung slave traders. New transition technology lets them travel thousands of light years instantly and they’ve seized accumulated positional data (charts) from the Allung Confederation. The Earthers are traveling closer to the galactic core where the Allung may have run into the Ylee, the possible creators of the lamlee. The Ylee region of space is close to LeiLei and Shiv’s home world and we will go there first. Earth wishes to expand explore, and tame further systems near the core. They have to decide what type of expedition to form – do they need a lone ship, a squad or an armada. Earth has had opposition at every step of their travels and many groups on Earth are finding the means to look for a future, an escape into space. Earth may not survive its successful trading...is trade worth five billion human lives? Looks like we have no choice...
TRADE WORLD SAGA Ken Pence Books
Three and half stars. This is a collection of four novellas. The first was written many years ago and is pretty rough in both its story telling and editing. As the books progress, both improver greatly but the editing in each still leaves much to be desired.Pence paints an interesting universe, a loose Trade Federation with a vague enforcement arm called the Exploration Service. This is kind of a libertarian fantasy where there is a world government that is weak and largely ineffectual and the galactic Exploration Service is primarily responsible to ensure free trade.
The characters are more than two dimensional but not fully developed. Where Pence really shines, is in showing the challenges and misunderstandings of interactions between the many races in his universe. A fun read from a promising author.

TRADE WORLD SAGA Ken Pence Books Reviews
First, I hate writing reviews, but I must say, I was disappointed when I found this was all in this universe. To that end, I am biting the bullet to write this review to hopefully get the author to write more.
To summarize the story some without posting spoilers;
In the not so near future, after a devastating plague killed a portion of the population, we find Earth still is dealing with the same problems has today. After an encounter with an alien, things start to change, while others stay the same. Humanity starts to go out into the galaxy, eyes wide shut, but not for long.
Overall, I found the story to be fascinating and followed along with my own thoughts of what would we, has humans do if certain technological advances became available? How would different governments and businesses react? Throw aliens into the mix and what would you trade them for?
The negative portions of this series is the same for the majority of books, movies and such. That being the "Fortunate coincidence", though I will give the author credit for doing some of it in a clever way. Also, minus some minor grammatical errors, the characters were well thought out and gave a good accounting of themselves in the story.
Overall, I highly enjoyed this series and would recommend it to anybody that sits back and wonders about life amongst the stars.
One of the best I have read in a long time, I couldn't put it down. I really enjoy your style, thank you.
I liked it. It's a good science fiction romp through an already old galaxy.
Conflict was a little light. Basically it was pretty black and white.
The characters were decent and relatable but didn't really have any flaws to speak of. The bad guys were bad and didn't really have many redeeming qualities at all.
All that being said? I still enjoyed the heck out of the series.
I would have given book 5 stars except the first book had to many typos and repeat pages. I thought this was a different way of looking at the earth getting into space. I personally loved Ken Pence writing style and the way I thought the book was character driven. I loved the different alien s portrayed in the book and the interactions of the crews. It is hard to write a review without spoilers, so give Mr. Pence a try. You might like this unique outlook.
This is an amazing series. How I and everyone else missed it is tragic. This is one of the best authors out there and one of the best series I have ever read. The proofreading could have done a little better, but if you can get over that its fantastic. DO NOT MISS READING THIS SERIES. AWESOME !!!
What a marvelous series of extrapolation of current knowledge projected with interesting people, aliens, and the key is TRADE. I had to just stop at times and go off on a thinking tangent with the ideas and interesting concepts. It was delishish. I usually dont purchase most older releases but am so glad I took a chance on this one. Will read more of kens work. Some editing needed but very readable, if you have half of brain you c a n figure it out. Take a chance.
A really fun series to read. The setting is in the future when an alien lands and leaves technologies that are reversed engineered, improved upon and used to make Earth a star wandering force. The individuals in the book are well developed, including several aliens. The Earthers only survive because of the ability to quickly analyze, reverse engineer and again improve upon the technologies that they encounter when them meet new alien threats. Enjoyed this series so much that I downloaded all of Mr. Pence's books and read them all. This particular book should be read after several of his others.
